Heat’s Hassan Whiteside: All-Star vote is based on who makes best Twitter jokes

The voting process for the All-Star game relies heavily on tweets, and the Heat’s Hassan Whiteside is not a fan.

“It’s more so a gimmick,” Whiteside said Thursday, via the Sun Sentinel. “I look at guys and they just do stuff to win the fans over, make jokes on Twitter to get people to vote for them. It ain’t got nothing to do really with talent.”

Instead it was Westbrook’s old friends Kevin Durant and James Harden getting starting nods, the NBA announced Thursday. The All-Star Game reserves, chosen by NBA head coaches, will be announced Thursday, Jan. 26. Surely Westbrook’s name will be at the top of that list.

The NBA announced in December that in addition to the usual fan vote, players and members of the basketball media will now have a say in who gets selected.

NBA fans accounted for 50 percent of the vote total for All-Star starters. Players and a panel of media members, who are allowed just one ballot each, accounted for the other 50 percent.

The 2017 NBA All-Star Game will be played Feb. 19 in New Orleans. It was originally scheduled to be played in Charlotte, N.C., but the weekend’s events were moved because of North Carolina’s controversial HB2 law.

Here’s another example, only against a much better defensive team. This time, notice how Shumpert sets a screen for DeAndre Liggins on the weak side to prevent Marco Belinelli and Jeremy Lamb from helping out. It’s less of a necessity when Frye is on the court because he’s one of Tampa Bay Lightning Cheap Jerseys the best spot-up shooters in league, but Liggins has made only 14 3-pointers in Plain Cheap Jerseys 32 games. If they don’t involve him in some sort of off-ball action, his defender can afford to back way off of him and break up the play.
